What do you DO in Children's Church?

Kids come to church, sit and listen to boring sermons -- right?

So, what goes on in Children's Church?

During worship time, the kids are members of our worship team, as singers and musicians, and they take up offerings (pass the baskets), and hand out bulletins and other materials as asked. Before and after church, they help set up and take down equipment and chairs as needed for weekly services. Some of the teens are learning to help with the sound and video equipment.

We have grade school classes, tweens, and teen classes.  Occasionally, others are invited to take part.  Recently, one of our members led the children on a clean-up walk around the school, and another shared with the class about countries needing prayers, related to the Samaritan's Purse program.  Another time, a lady member showed the children some of her collection of rocks and gems, and jewelry she has created from some of them.

Seasonally, we take prayer walks around the neighborhood, as weather permits.  We take nature walks, too, to gather examples of God's creation.  Monthly, the kids go to the Union Gospel Mission to serve lunch to the homeless.  We have a snack time each week, except the first week of each month when there is no separate class because of communion day. Different members supply snacks and juice drinks each week.  Other activities are games, such as Pictionary, ball, bowling, treasure hunts, charades, and cards.

We have many and varied arts and crafts.  The children have great imaginations.  Some children have led the class, like Nick, who led a combined grade and tween class for a Valentine's Day project to put together door-hangers he had pre-cut from wood, and provided supplies to embellish, for the children to give as gifts.  The children have frequent plays or skits, some from the "Faith Weaver" beelessons.  Pam has very good puppets, and we have our own stage for puppet shows.  Another project was for Mother's Day gifts -- little carts made from laundry detergent scoops, with lids from milk jugs for wheels, each containing a pretty plant!

It's lots of fun in Children's Church!

Visiting children are welcome to join our group!

Children's Church participated in Samaritan's Purse, collecting school supplies, small toys and personal hygeine supplies in gift wrapped shoeboxes for children in disaster areas and poor countries. This year some of the boxes were sent to children in the New Orleans disaster area.
